THE HISTORY

Enthousiam...

I first heard the beckoning call from far-flung lands that I have so readily heeded in the writings of the great adventurers and explorers of Africa, literature that I have loved since my earliest years. Later, at the beginning of the 1980s, on a motorcycle with a light bag loaded behind me and the road stretching into the distance, I was southward bound, over the Mediterranean, to compare my imaginings with reality.

My nineteenth birthday spent in the Adrar des Ifoghas at the heart of the Malian Sahara, under a Tamasheq tent to return regularly for years, was the first of a trail of cairns tracing a six-month trip combining African trails and encounters. My trip back to France was brief and a return to Africa and the Sahara immediate.

After over ten years of criss-crossing the continent by trail and track, forging close bonds of friendship and revisiting familiar smiles, it was almost natural for the French adventure tourism Tour Operators to welcome me when I returned to Europe, urging me back to the countries of the sands, to the Sahara… and inviting me to share the keys to this world of the great Saharan nomads to which, to this day, I remain so closely attached.

After twenty-eight Saharan winters, of which twelve spent accompanying groups, specialising in, and with a particular attraction for, long autonomous journeys on foot, I also have a deep affection for the world’s Mountains and the lands of the Far North – I am as comfortable in sandals as in boots and crampons, and as happy at the wheel of an overland vehicle as I am at the tiller of an outboard engine or on a camel’s back.

My idea of travelling? A huge, healthy, insatiable curiosity for other cultures. Going to meet “the other” and trying to understand. Ensuring that my “truths” are confronted with other “truths”, and allow other ways of doing things to reveal new avenues to understanding the World. Being outside as much as possible, in the wind, the rain, the cold, and under different suns; a vital longing for Nature, the wide-open spaces of Freedom, far from those cities that so often harden hearts… a question of balance.

Continuously in search of new emotions and discoveries, I will take you from Africa to the Far North via the Middle East. Well away from the beaten path, the routes I have created will satisfy your search for authenticity and any hankering to escape the easy option. You can be assured of my professional approach, based on twenty years leading adventure tours and an attentiveness constantly emphasizing your safety and your comfort. What is the finest gift one can give me at the end of a journey? It’s when I see the emotion in your eyes and I hear you say, “Not even a single jarring note Bruno….”
